Empower Brands has issued a recall for two of its dual-basket air fryers due to the potential for the products to break and cause burns. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), more than 300,000 of these air fryers were sold in the United States between August 2021 and October 2023 at major retailers, including Kohls, Target, and Walmart.

The recalled products are the PowerXL DUAF-10 Dual-Basket Air Fryer and DUAF-005 Vortex Dual-Basket Air Fryer. According to the recall notice, the issue is with a U-shaped plastic piece that connects the two baskets inside the fryer. The company has received 41 reports of the air fryers breaking while they were in use, and there have been three reports of burns.

The affected products were sold in either black or cinnamon colors and had a retail price between $60 and $190, depending on the model. According to the CPSC, the DUAF-10 is a 10-quart model that measures 17 inches long, 16 inches wide, and 12 ½ inches tall. The DUAF-005 is a 9-quart air fryer that measures 14 inches long, 13 inches wide, and 15 inches tall. Both models have a silver "Power XL" label on the front, and both will have a white label either on the bottom of the air fryer or on the power cord that lists the Model Number and Batch Code.

Empower Brands says that anyone with either of these air fryers should stop using it immediately. Customers with one of the recalled air fryers can contact Empower Brands between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. EST at 1-866-704-9370. Affected customers can also file a claim online at recall.prodprotect.com/dualbasket or by visiting powerxlproducts.com/recall and clicking "Proceed to Learn More."

To receive a refund, customers will need to enter the Model Number and Batch Code, and will also need to submit a photo after cutting the power cord on the air fryer. A receipt is not necessary to receive a refund: the company says that without proof of purchase, customers will be reimbursed for the average price of the air fryer.

"We take pride in providing our valued customers high-quality products that are safe for their intended use," Empower Brands wrote on its website. "We stand behind our products, appreciate the trust our customers put in us, and sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause."
