How We Tested Air Fryer Toaster Ovens In order to find the best air fryer toaster ovens on the market, we performed rigorous side-by-side testing, putting each model through various challenges. We were looking for models that performed well, toasted, air-fried, and baked evenly, had a small footprint, and were easy to use and clean. We want an air fryer toaster oven that performs well and is easy to operate. Our first order of business was to assess how clear the instructions were, as that can make or break a cooking experience. We then inspected the toaster oven, measuring all sides and determining how easy the dials and controls were to read. We asked ourselves if it would be difficult to read for those with vision issues or in dim lighting. When it came time to test, we first performed a heat test to determine the heating element's effectiveness in each toaster oven. We positioned the oven rack in the middle of the oven and placed an oven thermometer in the center of the rack. We recorded the temperature registered by the oven thermometer every minute for 10 minutes. What Didn't Make the List While extremely effective at air frying fries, the Toshiba Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combo only toasted our bread evenly on one side and did not prove to be particularly reliable when used for baking.
