Xpeng Motors said on Monday it had received more than 25,000 pre-orders for its G6 sports utility vehicle in its first 72 hours on sale. Reservations opened to the public on June 9, secured by a deposit of RMB 2,000 ($279) per customer. The Chinese electric vehicle maker is striving to boost sales with the release of the compact crossover for a competitive price of RMB 225,000 ($31,429), undercutting Tesla’s China-made Model Y, which is priced from RMB 263,900. Xpeng’s G6 SUV has a driving range of 755 kilometers (469 miles) on a single charge and can travel another 300 km on a 10-minute charge with a fast charger. By comparison, the top-end Model Y has a range of 615 km per charge. [TechNode reporting, Xpeng announcement, in Chinese]
