A Shanghai court has ordered Chinese electric vehicle maker WM Motor to pay Geely RMB 7 million ($1 million) in compensation for misappropriating trade secrets involving several of the latter’s proprietary car parts drawings. WM Motor was ordered to stop using the trade secrets on its EX5 electric crossovers, which the company said would have little or no impact on business operations. Geely in 2018 filed a lawsuit against WM Motor over its use of designs for multiple chassis parts and other alleged intellectual property violations, claiming RMB 21 billion in damages, according to documents released by the Shanghai High People’s Court.
