China’s media regulator, the National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA), issued 70 new gaming licenses on Thursday after a two month-long pause in new approvals. Notable Chinese gaming firms including Tencent, NetEase, Perfect World, and Lilith Games made the list of licensed titles. Tencent and Japanese gaming firm SNK’s mobile title collaboration Metal Slug: Awakening was among those approved by the NPPA; Tencent undertook a two-week round of testing in June last year and the game’s website is already live, suggesting the title will be ready to play soon. NetEase also saw approval for a forthcoming mobile title, a new game belonging to its A Chinese Odyssey series, which has a background story adapted from Journey to the West. The new licenses grant approval to 68 mobile platform titles and seven for PCs, five of which are set to launch across platforms. [NPPA, in Chinese]
