GAC is exploring making a move into the self-flying vehicle business, becoming the latest Chinese automaker to investigate the possibilities of urban air mobility, local media outlet Time News reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. GAC, Toyota’s manufacturing partner in China, recently posted a number of Guangzhou-based jobs on recruitment site Liepin for roles such as aircraft design engineer and flight test engineer, the report said. Rivals Geely and Xpeng Motors are also making forays into the field by backing German startup Volocopter and Chinese counterpart HT Aero respectively, with plans to begin selling their flying vehicles in China as early as 2024.
