BYD said on Wednesday it had reached the notable milestone of 3 million electric vehicles produced, a number comparable to Tesla’s 3.2 million cars as of October. BYD is the first Chinese automaker to cross the 3 million mark. The Warren Buffett-backed EV giant has revealed that it also plans to set up a new sub-brand that “specializes in professional and personalized identities,” though hasn’t provided many more details. Chairman Wang Chuanfu did confirm however that BYD will launch the first model under Yangwang, another new sub-brand focused on the high-end luxury market, in the first quarter of 2023.
