BYD has carved up its intelligent driving operation’s research and development unit, essentially absorbing it into its electronic engineering team led by Han Bing, a former engineer at US parts supplier Delphi, Chinese media outlet 36Kr has reported. The Thursday report, which cited people familiar with the matter, said that Han will also lead the company’s upcoming chip design team, without revealing further details. The Chinese electric vehicle giant has been ramping up efforts to enhance its in-house automated driving capabilities after selling a record 1.87 million cars last year, partnering with US chip powerhouse Nvidia and local auto tech unicorn Horizon Robotics early this year. BYD did not respond to a request for comment. [36Kr, in Chinese]
