One of the World's Best Bars Just Launched the Best (and Most Beautiful) Mixing Glass I've Ever Used

I’ve been writing about drinks for over five years, and in that time I’ve had the opportunity to test out a whole lot of barware sets. I’ve reviewed dozens of muddlers, shakers of every shape and size, and loads of mixing glasses. After a while, the silvery sets started to blend together, and it’s rare that any one stands out. But, when Material Kitchen sent me its new cocktail kit, I was immediately surprised. The Stirred Set, made in collaboration with world-renowned bar Death & Co., is absolutely gorgeous. And once I put it to the test, it proved to be just as functional.

The first thing that caught my eye was the mixing glass. While typical sets come with clear mixing glasses with capacities of 500 to 600 milliliters, this set features a large pitcher that’s more than double that size. Most mixing glasses are made to stay behind the scenes and make one cocktail at a time, but this vessel is bound to become the main character at my next dinner party for batched drinks. It’s so beautiful, in fact, that when I’m not in the mood to mix up a drink, I’ve been using it as a water pitcher for the dinner table.

As for functionality, the mixing glass features straight walls and a rippled handle that gives it a sturdy grip, making for effortless stirring. The set also includes a metal, double-sided spoon featuring a long, ergonomic neck and a base that doubles as both a muddler and a mallet for cracking ice. The Duo Spoon is straight (not spiraled), and its weighty base helps add momentum to each stir — mixing drinks has truly never felt so intuitive. 

But my favorite part of this set is also the easiest to overlook. The 4 ounce Cloud Jigger includes measuring marks for both tablespoons and ounces and features a stepped, crimped texture for easy measuring and added style. What I love most about this tool, though, is the fact that it’s made from glass, not metal, so I can see exactly how much I’m pouring. And like the pitcher itself, the jigger features a tiny spout for mess-free pouring. I’m seriously considering tossing out all my other jiggers.
