McDonald's Says It's Sort of Bringing Back Snack Wraps

Finally, McDonald's is listening.

Several years ago, McDonald’s made the rather unpopular decision to remove the Snack Wrap from its menus due to how complicated it was to make in a timely fashion. Since then, fans of the teeny wrap have begged, pleaded, and yelled at McDonald’s over the internet to bring it back to the permanent menu. But now, it seems the Snack Wrap will indeed make a comeback to McDonald’s soon … sort of.

During an investor call on Tuesday, Dec. 6, executives shared that they plan to expand the reach of the McCrispy, the chain’s “Southern-style fried chicken sandwich,” including putting it into tender and wrap form.

“In the U.S. business, we have three really strong chicken brands between McChicken, Chicken McNuggets, and obviously McCrispy,” Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald’s USA, said on the call, according to Today. “But (with) McCrispy, we’re in the early days, really building that brand and so looking forward. Will we eventually have a crispy tender? Yes. And will that allow us to eventually have a McCrispy Snack Wrap? Yes. But we’re still in the early days of doing that.”

And really, it’s a smart decision all around, because not only do consumers want it, but, as Business Insider noted, chicken is a $25 billion business for the fast food giant.

"Today, the size of the company's chicken business is on par with beef, as the company continues to aggressively expand through billion-dollar equities including McNuggets, McChicken, McCrispy, and McSpicy," the company shared in a statement with the publication. "This includes plans to offer McCrispy in nearly all markets around the world by the end of 2025 … These planned innovations and new menu offerings reflect the Company's ability to test and scale quickly to serve customers."

Couldn’t get your hands on a Snack Wrap back in the day? Well, you may have more chances to in the future. According to Business Insider, McDonald’s also said it plans to expand to 50,000 restaurants around the globe by 2027, up from its current 40,000 locations now. Of course, if you really want something that’s both nostalgic and new all at once from McDonald’s, you can always make your way to Bolingbrook, Illinois, to eat at the very first CosMc’s, which is serving its own zany menu items right now.
