2023 Was the Year I Replaced My Dishes with Pasta Bowls, and 2 of My Favorites Are on Sale Now

2023 was the year of Barbenheimer, celebrity football couples, and scooped bagel drama on Tik Tok, among a few other highlights. And it was the year of the pasta bowl. Well, at least it was for me. 

I’ve always been a collector of the hybrid dinnerware piece, especially after my professional kitchen days, but this year was the year I realized I virtually replaced all of my dishes with them. There really is nothing like these bowls, with their wide shape and slight walls. You can fit nearly every dish in them, from standard morning oats to show-stopping homemade ravioli. If you don’t own a set of your own, now’s the time to change that. Y Yhy 6-Piece 30-Ounce Pasta Bowl Set

The Y Yhy bowls are the perfect choice if you’re looking for a slightly larger option that’ll hold a wide variety of dishes. They’ll comfortably fit a portion of pasta (with some extra wiggle room) as well as have enough space for a nice serving of salad for lunch or a big dish-up of stew with potatoes and vegetables. 

Each bowl is 30 ounces in size, with an 8.5-inch diameter. They have the perfect wall height in my opinion, at just under 2-inches. This gives you enough protection to add in saucy items like stew, pasta, or even soup, but still keeps the bowl open to easily toss foods around or plate up a meal with all the fixings. 

The bowls are made with a durable porcelain that’s still lightweight, with a sleek finish that makes them a total breeze to clean. They’re also fully dishwasher- and microwave-safe, which is key for me since it makes reheating and cleaning so much easier on the day-to-day. Personally, I prefer and own the white shade, which is currently on sale for just $27. You get a set of six, which is an amazing value for the cost. I thought that six might be too many for just me, but having them on hand has proven itself to be useful since I use them so often. 

Sweese 6-Piece 22-Ounce Pasta Bowl Set

Another pasta bowl I grab everyday are these now double-discounted 22-ounce bowls from Sweese. When I first received these from the brand (I tested them for our pasta bowls buying guide) I thought they’d be way too small, but they’ve turned out to be some of my most grabbed pieces. This is the perfect set if you plan on serving pasta most often in these, though to be fair, you’ll likely still grab these for a multitude of dishes just like I do. 

They’re the perfect size for standard servings of pasta, because there’s not too much extra space left over in the bowl. I’ve used it for homemade gnocchi, bucatini cacio e pepe, and so much more. Because they’re slightly smaller, they also keep your sauce all in one tight spot. They have a 7.6-inch diameter with just under 2-inch walls, and are made from an extremely lightweight porcelain, with thinner walls, so they’re great if you really don’t like dinnerware with a lot of weight to it. They’re also microwave- and dishwasher-safe for fuss free reheating and cleaning. 

Aside from pasta, I often plate up a lot of my weeknight dinner staples in these. They tend to be simpler meals, like tofu with noodles and spinach in a tamari sauce, or rice with salmon and broccolini with an Italian vinaigrette, so I don’t need a ton of space. I love that these bowls can keep everything so nicely tucked in so that each bite has a bit of flavor in it. I use them often to serve side salads, soups, snacks, and even desserts like apple pie with ice cream. 

Between the Y Yhy bowls and these Sweese bowls, you can’t really go wrong. To me, it’s a total matter of preference, although with their less-expensive price and added discount, you may as well pick up both. And if you need a gift for someone, well, these are just the thing.
